Lochin Marine International Ltd (LMI) specializes in the design and construction of fast 'offshore' commercial and leisure vessels. The origins of this maritime heritage date back to Lochin Marine (RYE) Ltd, founded in the early 1970s by renowned racing car entrepreneur Frank Nichols. The company name Lochin is an anagram of the founder's name. He acquired his in-depth knowledge of fiberglass production techniques in the racing car industry. This played a crucial role in creating a ship that could withstand extreme sea conditions.
In 1972 the Lochin 33 was born as the basic design and concept from which all future Lochin designs emerged. The flowing lines with a deep and stabilizing keel were the trademark of this design.
With the introduction of the Lochin 38 in the 1980s, the Lochin series consolidated its position in the commercial sector. Following the takeover in the 1990s, Simon Thomas, together with award-winning naval architects Paul Graville and Ian Short, further developed and refined all designs. They increased the appeal and embraced modern production techniques. This led to the launch of the Lochin 40 in 1995 and the Lochin 333 in 1996 as an evolution of the successful Lochin 38. A new 11 meter design followed in 2000, the Lochin 366 & 367. The commercial variants 366 & 367 offered an excellent opportunity to introduce a modern approach to construction.
Lochin has built an undisputed reputation for manufacturing authentic sea crafts and continues to evolve based on core strengths and values, true to a proven trajectory. As a result of the Brexit, production was transferred in 2020 to a factory in Ireland, owned by Ryan & Roberts Marine Services Ltd (RRMS), located near Limerick on the River Shannon.
